Sarah Horwitz, an oil painter born in California in 1989, earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Oil Painting from the University of Arizona in 2012. That same year, she deepened her artistic practice through a residency in Paris, France. Since 2014, she has made New York City her home and creative base.
In 2018, Sarah established her studio in Ridgewood, Queens, where she has focused on large-scale works that explore the complexity of mycelium. Fascinated by biology and the hidden microbiome, Sarah magnifies mycelial networks, inviting viewers to engage with these intricate systems on a larger-than-life scale, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the unseen forces that shape our environments.
Currently, Sarah is delving into the concept of emotional movement through color and the portrayal of human essence in her blind contour drawings and paintings. Drawing inspiration from her experiences in hospitality and the diverse people she encounters daily, she uses the act of finger painting to capture and translate the core energy of individuals onto canvas.
